Explore Lens Options Designed Around Your Eyes and Lifestyle
Smart Lens treatment is not a single lens or a one-size-fits-all solution. Your eye health, prescription, age, daily activities and visual priorities must be assessed before an ophthalmologist can recommend a suitable lens option.
Lens options and suitability are confirmed only after an in-person examination by an ophthalmologist. No visual outcome or freedom from glasses can be guaranteed.

What Does “Smart Lens” Mean?
“Smart Lens” is a commonly used term for advanced intraocular lens options. During lens replacement surgery, the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens selected according to the patient’s clinical measurements and visual needs.
Not a single product
Depending on the examination findings, the ophthalmologist may discuss monofocal, multifocal or trifocal, extended depth-of-focus, or toric lens options.
Specialist decision
Not every lens type is suitable for every patient, and no lens can guarantee complete independence from glasses. Your examination results determine the right option.
Guided end to end
One coordinator stays in touch with you from your first message to your aftercare instructions.
Lens options
Monofocal Lenses
Designed to provide a primary focus at one distance. Reading or distance glasses may still be required depending on the selected target.
Multifocal or Trifocal Lenses
Designed to provide vision across more than one distance. Some patients may experience glare, halos or reduced contrast, particularly in low-light conditions.
Extended Depth-of-Focus Lenses
Designed to extend the range of focus, commonly supporting distance and intermediate vision. Reading glasses may still be needed for some close tasks.
Toric Lenses
May be considered when clinically significant astigmatism is present. Suitability depends on detailed corneal and eye measurements.
Lens choice is based on clinical examination, eye measurements and individual visual needs. No lens can guarantee complete freedom from glasses or the total absence of glare, halos or other visual effects.
Advanced lens technologies available
We work with established international intraocular lens manufacturers and offer different lens technologies according to the patient’s clinical measurements, eye health and visual priorities.
Johnson & Johnson Vision — TECNIS lens family
The TECNIS family includes different intraocular lens technologies, including monofocal, enhanced monofocal, extended depth-of-focus and full-range options. The model considered for each patient depends on eye health, prescription, astigmatism, lifestyle and visual priorities.
Rayner RayOne Trifocal
A premium diffractive trifocal intraocular lens designed to support near, intermediate and distance vision. Individual results and adaptation can vary.
Rayner RayOne Galaxy — Spiral Full-Range IOL
A premium full-range intraocular lens featuring a non-diffractive spiral optic, designed to provide a smooth and continuous range of vision from near to distance while minimising unwanted visual effects such as glare and halos. Suitability and expected visual performance are assessed individually by the ophthalmologist.
Other international lens options
Additional lens options may be available according to your clinical needs and the hospital’s current portfolio. The exact manufacturer, model, country of origin, material and regulatory status are stated in your written treatment plan before treatment.
The final brand and model are selected by the ophthalmologist after a comprehensive examination. Availability is subject to clinical suitability. No lens can guarantee complete freedom from glasses or the total absence of glare, halos or other visual effects.
Who May Be Considered for Lens Treatment?
Lens replacement may be discussed with adults experiencing cataracts, age-related difficulty focusing at near distances, or certain refractive errors. It may also be considered by patients who would like to reduce their dependence on glasses and understand the benefits and limitations of the available options.
Suitability must be confirmed carefully
Advanced lens options may not be appropriate for every patient. Existing retinal disease, advanced glaucoma, significant corneal problems, uncontrolled dry eye, previous eye surgery, very high prescriptions or specific night-vision requirements may influence the recommendation. Your ophthalmologist will evaluate your individual risks, expectations and lifestyle before recommending any procedure.
Your Comprehensive Eye Examination
Your final treatment plan can only be prepared after an in-person eye examination. Depending on your case, the assessment may include:
- Review of your current prescription and visual goals
- Corneal measurements and topography
- Biometry for intraocular lens calculation
- Eye pressure measurement
- Retinal and optic nerve examination
- Assessment for cataract, dry eye and other eye conditions
- Discussion of your work, reading, screen and night-driving needs
The recommended lens and treatment plan are confirmed only after the ophthalmologist reviews the examination results.

What happens during lens replacement?
Lens replacement surgery involves removing the eye’s natural lens and placing a selected intraocular lens inside the eye. The procedure is commonly performed using local anaesthetic eye drops, although the exact clinical approach depends on the patient. Treatment is generally completed as a day procedure. Whether both eyes are treated on the same day or on separate days is decided by the ophthalmologist according to the treatment plan and clinical circumstances.
Recovery and Aftercare
Vision may be blurred or unstable during the early recovery period. Mild discomfort, light sensitivity, dry-eye symptoms or temporary glare may occur. Your surgeon will prescribe eye drops and explain how to protect your eyes while they heal.
You should not drive until your clinical team confirms that your vision is suitable. Rubbing the eyes, swimming, eye makeup, heavy lifting and getting water directly into the eyes may need to be avoided temporarily.
Recovery varies between patients. Your coordinator will provide your appointment schedule and help you understand the aftercare instructions.
Risks, Side Effects and Limitations
As with any eye procedure, lens replacement involves potential risks and side effects. These vary according to the patient’s eye health, prescription, selected lens and surgical plan. Possible considerations include:
- Temporary blurred or fluctuating vision
- Dryness or eye-surface discomfort
- Glare, halos, starbursts or reduced contrast
- Continued need for glasses for certain activities
- Under-correction or over-correction
- Inflammation or infection
- Posterior capsule opacification
- Movement or positioning problems involving the lens
- Retinal complications
- Need for additional treatment or surgery
Your ophthalmologist will explain the benefits, alternatives and individual risks before you decide whether to proceed. No specific visual result or complete freedom from glasses can be guaranteed.
Alternatives to Lens Replacement
Lens replacement is not the only option for vision correction. Depending on your age, prescription and eye health, your ophthalmologist may discuss:
- Glasses or contact lenses
- Laser vision correction
- Phakic intraocular lenses
- Cataract monitoring where immediate surgery is not required
- Monovision or other lens strategies
The purpose of the examination is to identify an appropriate option, not to assume that Smart Lens treatment is suitable before you are assessed.
